Can the driver wait while I collect tickets or meet someone?

Yes — add waiting time at booking for short stops and we’ll include it in the quote.

39miles
1h 8moff-peak drive

Gatwick Airport to Kensington, via the M23 and M25.

Gatwick to Kensington is around 39 miles and, on a clear run, a little over an hour door to door. Minicabees fixes the fare before you travel, tracks your inbound flight so the pickup moves with the actual landing time, and meets you inside arrivals at whichever terminal you land in. Get your price on this page, or call +44 20 8050 9020 and we will book it for you.

The Gatwick to Kensington route

There are two sensible ways into Kensington from Gatwick, and your driver will pick between them on the day. The usual choice is the M23 north to the M25, anticlockwise to junction 10, then the A3 through Wandsworth and over the river — about 39 miles and roughly 68 minutes when the roads are behaving. The alternative runs straight up the A23 through Purley, Streatham and Brixton. That is only 31 miles, but it is all urban dual carriageway and traffic lights, so it is often the slower of the two despite being shorter.
Late evening and overnight, the A23 usually wins. Weekday mornings and Friday afternoons, the M25 and A3 tend to be the safer bet even with the extra mileage.

What tends to affect the time

M25 junctions 7 to 10

This stretch carries Gatwick, Heathrow and Dartford traffic together and is the single most common source of delay on this route.

The A3 at Wandsworth

The approach to the Wandsworth one-way system slows noticeably between 7am and 10am, and again from about 4pm.

Cromwell Road

The final mile into Kensington runs along the A4, which backs up in both directions during the afternoon peak.

Event days

Performances at the Royal Albert Hall and exhibitions at Olympia both put real pressure on the local streets. If you are arriving on an event evening, allow extra.

Where we meet you at Gatwick

Gatwick has two terminals and they are a shuttle ride apart, so we match the pickup to your flight rather than guessing.

North Terminal

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall by the exit from baggage reclaim, holding a name board. This is our optional meet and greet service. If you'd rather not add it, your driver phones you once you're on the ground to agree where to meet.

South Terminal

Same arrangement, in the arrivals concourse on the ground floor.

Flight tracking

We watch the inbound flight, so a delay moves the pickup rather than costing you the booking.

Free waiting

The first 60 minutes after landing are included, which covers immigration and baggage on all but the worst days.

Dropping off in Kensington

Kensington sits outside the Congestion Charge zone, so that charge does not arise on this journey. Where any charge does apply on a route, whether that is the Congestion Charge, the Dartford Crossing or a Clean Air Zone, it is already inside the fixed fare we quote you. You never pay it separately to the driver.

Cromwell Road hotels

Most have a forecourt or a marked drop-off bay, so you can be set down at the door with your bags.

Kensington High Street

Loading restrictions apply along much of it during the day; your driver will use a side street a few steps away rather than stop illegally.

Exhibition Road

The museum end is a shared surface with limited stopping. For the V and A, the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum, the practical drop-off is on Cromwell Road.

Residential streets

Kensington is almost entirely residents' parking. Setting you down takes a moment and is not a problem, but there is nowhere to wait, so please be ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Around 68 minutes for the 39 mile run via the M25 and A3 in normal conditions. Allow closer to 90 minutes if you are travelling into the weekday morning or evening peak, and a little less late at night.

Either the M23 to M25 to A3, which is 39 miles, or straight up the A23 through Brixton, which is 39 miles but slower in traffic. Your driver chooses on the day based on conditions. The fare is fixed either way, so the route does not change what you pay.

Kensington is outside the Congestion Charge zone, so it does not arise here. On routes where a charge does apply, it is already inside the fixed fare we quote, so there is never anything to settle with the driver.

We track the inbound flight and move the pickup to the actual landing time. The first 60 minutes after you land are free, and waiting beyond that is charged at 20 pounds an hour pro rata.

Yes, wherever it is legal to stop. Hotels along Cromwell Road generally have a forecourt or drop-off bay. On Kensington High Street your driver may use a side street a few steps away because of loading restrictions.

Yes. Tell us when you book so the stop is priced into the fixed fare rather than added afterwards.

Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice to be eligible for a refund, and refunds are subject to a £7 or 10% administration fee, whichever is higher. No refund is issued where notice is under 24 hours, or where the passenger does not show up. To cancel, email or call us and wait for written confirmation; until you have that, the booking still stands.
