Gatwick Airport to central London, via the M23.

Gatwick to central London is about 30 miles and roughly 71 minutes. Central London covers a lot of ground, though, and the difference between one district and another is real, so it is worth telling us where you are actually going. Fixed fare quoted here, or call +44 20 8050 9020.

The Gatwick to central London route

The direct line is the M23 for the first ten miles, then the A23 the whole way in through Purley, Streatham and Brixton, crossing the river at Vauxhall or Lambeth. Around 30 miles and about 71 minutes. The alternative goes M23 to M25 to the A3, which is roughly 30 miles but more of it on motorway, and it is often the more reliable choice in the weekday peaks.
Your driver decides on the day. The fare is fixed, so the route makes no difference to what you pay.

Central London is not one destination

The journey time varies a good deal depending on which part you mean, and so does whether the Congestion Charge applies. To give you a sense from our own route data:

Westminster

The closest at about 30 miles and 68 minutes. Inside the charging zone.

Piccadilly and the West End

Around 31 miles but 73 minutes, because of the central street network. Inside the zone.

Kensington and Chelsea

Roughly 38 to 39 miles and 64 to 68 minutes. Outside the zone.

Greenwich and Canary Wharf

Further out at 44 to 46 miles, but under 65 minutes because the roads are faster. Outside the zone.

If you book with a specific district we can be more precise about timing and about whether the Congestion Charge is part of your fare. Booking simply for central London is fine, but tell the office where you are heading and we will pick the right approach.

Charges

The Congestion Charge is 18 pounds a day, applying 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and midday to 6pm at weekends and bank holidays, with no charge between Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It applies to journeys entering the zone during those hours. Whatever charges apply on your route, the Congestion Charge included, they are already inside the fixed fare we quote you. You never pay them separately to the driver.

Practical details

Your driver waits inside arrivals at whichever Gatwick terminal you land at, holding a name board. Meet and greet is an optional extra; without it your driver calls you once you've landed to agree a pickup point. We track the inbound flight, so a delay moves the pickup rather than costing you the booking, and the first 60 minutes after landing are included.
A saloon takes two with two 23kg suitcases, an MPV four with full luggage, and the eight seater a group. Central London stopping points vary enormously, so the exact address is worth giving us when you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

You never pay it separately: any charge that applies is already inside the fare we quote. Which areas it covers depends where you are going. Westminster and the West End are inside the zone; Kensington, Chelsea, Greenwich and Canary Wharf are outside it. It is 18 pounds a day during charging hours.

Give us the specific address if you can. It lets us quote accurately, confirm the charge, and pick the right approach for the time of day.

Around 71 minutes for about 30 miles on the direct A23 route. Some central destinations are quicker and some slower; Greenwich is under an hour, the West End is over 70 minutes.

Either straight up the A23 through Brixton, which is shorter, or the M25 and A3, which is longer but more of it motorway. Your driver chooses on the day and the fare is fixed either way.

We track it and move the pickup to your actual landing time, with the first 60 minutes of waiting free.

To Victoria specifically, often yes. For most other central addresses, once you add the onward leg with luggage, a car door to door is comparable and simpler.

Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice to be eligible for a refund, and refunds are subject to a £7 or 10% administration fee, whichever is higher. No refund is issued where notice is under 24 hours, or where the passenger does not show up. To cancel, email or call us and wait for written confirmation; until you have that, the booking still stands.
