Gatwick Airport to Cambridge, via the M25 and M11.

Gatwick to Cambridge is about 96 miles and roughly two hours, going right round London on the M25 and up the M11. Cambridge city centre restricts traffic heavily, so the drop-off point is worth agreeing in advance. Fixed fare here, or call +44 20 8050 9020.

The Gatwick to Cambridge route

M23 north to the M25, anticlockwise round the eastern side of London, then the M11 north to Cambridge. Around 96 miles and about 116 minutes. It is nearly all motorway, which makes it a comfortable long run, but the M25 section means the timing depends heavily on when you travel.
Leaving Gatwick at 7am on a weekday and leaving at 10pm are genuinely different journeys on this route. Tell us your flight and we will be realistic with you about the time rather than quoting the optimistic version.

Getting into Cambridge itself

Cambridge restricts vehicle access across much of the historic centre, with bus gates and pedestrianised streets that private hire vehicles cannot use. Several college entrances are on streets that are effectively closed to through traffic.

The colleges

Tell us which one. Most have a porters' lodge on a specific street, and the nearest legal set-down can be a few minutes' walk from the gate.

The station

A designated set-down area, and much easier access than the centre.

Addenbrooke's Hospital

Its own access roads on the southern edge, straightforward to reach.

The science and business parks

On the outskirts with proper access, so no difficulty with a larger vehicle.

What tends to affect the time

The M25 eastern section

The main variable, particularly around the Dartford approach in the morning.

M11 junction 14

The Cambridge exit and slow at peak times.

Term dates

Arrival and departure weekends at the start and end of terms are noticeably busier in the city.

Park and ride traffic

The main approaches into the centre fill from mid-morning.

Practical details

Your driver meets you inside arrivals at your Gatwick terminal with a name board. Meet and greet is an optional extra; without it your driver calls you once you've landed to agree a pickup point. We track the inbound flight so a delay moves the pickup, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free.
On a two hour journey, comfort matters. An executive saloon suits two travelling for work, and for a student move at the start of term, the eight seater takes the luggage that a car cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Around two hours for roughly 96 miles, going round the M25 and up the M11. It varies more than most long journeys because of the M25 section, so the time of day matters.

Not always. Cambridge restricts traffic across much of the historic centre with bus gates and pedestrianised streets. Tell us the college and we will get you to the nearest legal set-down, usually a short walk from the lodge.

It involves at least one change and a fair amount of luggage handling. For one person travelling light it is a reasonable option; for a group, a student move or a late arrival, the car is usually simpler.

We track it and move the pickup to your actual landing time, with the first 60 minutes of waiting free and 20 pounds an hour pro rata after.

Yes, in the eight seater. Tell us roughly how much you have when you book and we will send the right vehicle.

Yes, and it is a much shorter run. If you have a choice of arrival airport, Stansted is considerably closer to Cambridge than Gatwick.

Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice to be eligible for a refund, and refunds are subject to a £7 or 10% administration fee, whichever is higher. No refund is issued where notice is under 24 hours, or where the passenger does not show up. To cancel, email or call us and wait for written confirmation; until you have that, the booking still stands.
