East Midlands Airport is reached on the A6 and A453, or the M1 for a junction, and the drive is short enough that a delayed flight is a mild inconvenience rather than a disaster. Birmingham means the M1 south to the M42 and round to the A45, usually about an hour.
South, the M1 is the whole story. It runs fast past Leicester and Northampton, gets heavier around Milton Keynes and Luton, and then everything depends on the M25.
