King's Cross and St Pancras sit at the top of central London, and Heathrow sits well to the west of it — so this journey crosses the city rather than skirting it. That is the whole story of the route: nineteen miles that take forty-five minutes at six in the morning and can take an hour and a half at five in the afternoon.

The route west

There are two sensible lines and the driver picks on the day. The northern one runs along Euston Road to the Marylebone flyover and onto the A40 Westway, then down to the M4 — fast when the Westway is clear and the usual choice early in the morning. The southern one cuts through the West End to Hyde Park Corner and out along the A4 through Hammersmith, which is better late in the evening and worse in the afternoon peak.
Both finish the same way, on the M4 into the airport. The Hammersmith flyover section of the A4 is the single most congested part of either route.

Which Heathrow terminal you need

The terminal changes the last ten minutes of the journey, so it is worth giving us at booking.

Meeting you at the right station

King's Cross and St Pancras are two separate stations that happen to share a forecourt area, and the Eurostar arrivals exit is different again from the domestic platforms. A driver sent to the wrong one costs you ten minutes you may not have.
Tell us which station and which exit when you book. The forecourts themselves are restricted, so we will normally agree a specific point just outside — on Pancras Road, Euston Road or York Way depending on where you come out.

Eurostar and long-distance rail connections

A good share of this route is passengers coming off a Eurostar or an East Coast service and connecting to a flight. Those are the journeys where a fixed fare and a driver already waiting matter most, because the margin between landing at St Pancras and checking in at Heathrow is usually tight.
Give us the incoming train and we will time the pickup to it. If the train is late, the pickup moves — there is nothing extra to pay for reasonable waiting.

Is the Piccadilly line quicker?

Worth answering honestly: the Piccadilly line runs direct from King's Cross to Heathrow in roughly fifty to fifty-five minutes, and for one person with one bag it is hard to beat on price.
Where a car wins is luggage, groups and hours. The fare here is per vehicle rather than per person, so a family of four pays once instead of four times. The tube also does not run through the night, and the first trains do not help a passenger who needs to be at Terminal 5 for a six in the morning departure. Those are the journeys we are mostly booked for.
