Gatwick Airport to Brighton, via the A23.

Gatwick to Brighton is about 30 miles and roughly 44 minutes, which makes it one of the shortest and most straightforward airport runs we do. It is almost entirely the A23 and M23. Fixed fare quoted here, or call +44 20 8050 9020.

The Gatwick to Brighton route

This one is genuinely simple. South on the M23, which becomes the A23, and straight down to Brighton. Around 30 miles, about 44 minutes, and no route decisions to make. Gatwick is the natural airport for the whole Brighton and Hove area, and this is the reason.
Because it is short and predictable, it is also one of the few airport journeys where the time barely changes between the middle of the night and the middle of the day. Expect around 45 minutes almost whenever you travel.

What tends to affect the time

Pyecombe and the A23 descent

The final stretch over the Downs can slow in poor visibility, which is more common here than inland.

Preston Circus and the London Road approach

The main way into the city centre and the slowest part of the trip.

Event weekends

Pride in August, the Brighton Marathon and conference season all fill the seafront roads and the centre.

Summer weekends

Beach traffic makes the seafront and the lanes considerably slower from late morning.

Dropping off in Brighton

Brighton has no Congestion Charge and no ULEZ, so neither arises on this journey. Where any charge does apply on a route, whether that is the Congestion Charge, the Dartford Crossing or a Clean Air Zone, it is already inside the fixed fare we quote you. You never pay it separately to the driver.

The seafront hotels

Most have a forecourt or a set-down point on Kings Road, straightforward with luggage.

The Lanes and North Laine

Largely pedestrianised and very narrow. Your driver will set you down at the edge, usually a couple of minutes' walk.

Brighton station

A designated set-down area on the forecourt.

Hove and the western seafront

Wider roads and easier access, so no difficulty with a larger vehicle.

Practical details

We meet you inside arrivals at whichever Gatwick terminal you land at, with a name board. Add meet and greet when you book if you'd like this; if not, your driver calls you after you land to sort out the pickup point. The inbound flight is tracked, so a delay moves your pickup, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free.
Because the journey is short, this is a popular one for groups heading down together. The eight seater is often better value than two saloons, and Brighton has enough room to stop properly in most places.

Frequently Asked Questions

About 44 minutes for roughly 30 miles, almost all of it on the M23 and A23. It is one of the most consistent journeys we run, with little difference between peak and off-peak.

The train from Gatwick to Brighton is quick, so for one person travelling light it is competitive. For two or more with luggage, or arriving late, the car usually works out easier and takes you to the door.

Brighton has neither a Congestion Charge nor a ULEZ. And on any route where a charge does apply, it is already inside the fixed fare we quote, so you never settle it with the driver.

At the edge. The Lanes and North Laine are pedestrianised and too narrow for vehicles, so it is a short walk from the set-down point.

We track it and move the pickup to your real landing time. The first 60 minutes of waiting are free, then 20 pounds an hour pro rata.

Yes, and because the run is short and predictable you do not need to leave as absurdly early as for most airport journeys. Tell us the flight and we will suggest a time.

Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice to be eligible for a refund, and refunds are subject to a £7 or 10% administration fee, whichever is higher. No refund is issued where notice is under 24 hours, or where the passenger does not show up. To cancel, email or call us and wait for written confirmation; until you have that, the booking still stands.
