The A380 runs north from the bay to join the A38 near Newton Abbot, and from there it is the Devon Expressway to Exeter and the M5. Exeter Airport sits just off the A30 on the far side of the city, about forty minutes in total. Everything beyond that is the M5 north, or east on the M4 or the A303 depending on the day — the A303 being quicker when clear and slower when the single-carriageway sections seize up.
The local factor is the town itself. Torquay is built on hills, and the roads up from the harbour to Wellswood, Babbacombe and Chelston are steep and narrow in places. In August the seafront and the roads around Torre Abbey are slow all day. It is worth mentioning at booking if your pickup is somewhere tight or high up with heavy luggage.
