West to Heathrow the route is usually Marble Arch and the A40 Westway, or Park Lane and the A4 — the first is generally quicker and is also the road to Luton. East to London City it is Holborn and the Embankment or the City and the Limehouse Link. Gatwick means going south across the river.
Saturday afternoons, the run-up to Christmas and sale periods make the whole area slower than the mileage suggests, and the streets around Oxford Circus in particular can be at a standstill. We allow for that in the pickup time rather than the fare.
