The A40 Westway is the reason Heathrow is easy from here: join it at Westbourne Park or White City, run out to the A312 or continue to the M4, and you are at the terminals in around thirty-five minutes outside the peak. It is one of the few central-London airport runs that stays broadly predictable through the morning.
Luton benefits from the same road, taking the A40 to the M1 rather than crossing town — usually an hour and a quarter. Gatwick and London City are the awkward ones, both requiring a crossing of central London or a long loop round it, and both worth allowing extra time for in the afternoon.
Notting Hill itself is the local complication. The terraces around Ladbroke Grove and the communal garden squares look alike, Portobello Road is closed to traffic on market days, and many streets are residents' parking only. The exact address and a note about the market day make a real difference.

Carnival, market days and event pickups

Two things change the roads here completely. Portobello market closes streets on Fridays and Saturdays, and the Notting Hill Carnival over the August bank holiday closes most of the area for two days.
