North across the river there are three options and they behave very differently. The Blackwall Tunnel is the shortest and the most congested; the Silvertown Tunnel alongside it is newer, tolled and usually quicker; the Rotherhithe Tunnel is narrower with vehicle restrictions. For London City the crossing takes you almost to the terminal — twenty to thirty minutes door to door in most conditions.
South and east is easier. The A2 runs out towards the M25 and Kent, which makes Gatwick about the hour and Dover an ordinary drive. Heathrow is the difficult one: whichever route you take it crosses the whole of London, and an hour and three quarters in the afternoon is realistic rather than pessimistic.
Locally, the streets around the town centre, the Cutty Sark and the park are busy with visitors most weekends, and the one-way system around Greenwich Church Street is slow. The exact address helps.
