East Midlands is reached on the A6 through Alvaston and Shardlow or the A50 and M1 for a junction, and either way it is a short drive. Birmingham is the A38 south to the M42 and round to the A45, about an hour. Manchester runs the other way, west on the A50 to the M6 and up — usually an hour and a half, longer if the M6 around Stoke is having one of its days.
South to Heathrow and Gatwick the M1 does the work, joined at junction twenty-five. It is fast past Leicester and Northampton and then progressively busier towards Luton, with the M25 deciding the last part. Two and a half hours to Heathrow is a reasonable expectation; three to Gatwick is realistic rather than pessimistic.
Where a route enters a London charging zone or uses a toll — the M6 Toll is sometimes the quicker line to Birmingham — the cost is already inside your fare.
