West to Heathrow the route is the Strand and the Embankment, or Piccadilly and the Cromwell Road, joining the A4 and M4. Fifty minutes early in the morning is realistic; an hour and a half at half past five is equally realistic, and we time the pickup to the hour rather than the mileage.
London City is a short run east along the Embankment and through the Limehouse Link, and it is the quickest airport from here by a clear margin. Gatwick means crossing at Waterloo or Blackfriars Bridge and heading down the A23.
The area itself is the real constraint. The piazza, Neal Street, Floral Street and much of the surrounding grid are pedestrianised or access-only.
