This is the practical point of the page. Changing the Guard closes the roads immediately around the palace for a period most mornings in season. State visits, ceremonial processions, the Trooping the Colour weekend in June and the Remembrance Sunday service all close a much wider area, sometimes for most of a day. Marathons and cycling events do the same on their own dates.
Where that matters is a flight. A car cannot always reach the address you expect, and a driver who has not checked will sit in a closure while your check-in window narrows. We look at the day before confirming the pickup and, where roads are shut, agree a meeting point a short walk clear of them.

Where a car can collect you

The Mall and Constitution Hill are ceremonial roads with no stopping, and the palace forecourt is not a pickup point. Practical alternatives are Buckingham Palace Road towards Victoria, Grosvenor Place on the Hyde Park Corner side, Birdcage Walk and the streets off it, and the hotel entrances around Victoria and St James's. If you are visiting the State Rooms or the Royal Mews in summer, the Grosvenor Place and Buckingham Palace Road exits are the usable ones.
